Minolta 7D Digital SLR
The Workhorse
The Minolta 7D is a digital SLR (single lense reflex)
camera. I have used it for the majority of the photos
on this website. It has a 6 megapixel sensor and
features a technology called AntiShake that is built
into the camera (works with all lenses) which reduces
blurring due to shakey camera holding. Lenses I use
with the camera include a 17-35mm wide angle, a 50mm
prime, a 50mm macro, a 28-80mm general purpose zoom,
and a 75-300mm zoom lens.
Canon PowerShot G5
Small and Discrete
The Canon PowerShot G5 is a point & shoot (P&S)
digital camera. It has a 5 megapixel sensor and
features a fold out LCD for composing shots and
playback. The G5 also allows for video capture and even
supports saving photos to a RAW format for more
flexible editing on the computer. The G5 is very useful
for quick videos or for taking when the compact size
and quiet operation is important. The fold out LCD is
also very helpful in composing awkwardly angled shots
where you would not normally be able to get your eye in
the viewfinder like with a SLR camera. The lens is not
interchangable but it does have a fairly modest zoom
and macro capability. I also have an external flash
which is useful for bouncing off walls or ceilings to
get a more diffused and natural light source than a
direct flash.
